Capabilities and Limitations

How does which site I sign up on affect me

Code of Conduct

All sites in the League agree to be governed overall by the League Code of Conduct, however for practical and social, and technical reasons individual sites will have specific requirements and will be governed differently.

Who can I talk to?

All sites in the League will federate with each other, which means that you can interact with any posts or users within the League who do not have you explicitly blocked. You'll be able to talk to your friends on another site within the League easily.

What kinds of media can I post?

Different sites may optimize for the specific kinds of posts they want to encourage: a photography focused site might require all posts to contain an image, and feature optimizations for hosting high-quality images and displaying them well. A site interested in preserving Cohost-era CSS crimes might incorporate patches to allow similar artistic displays. Another site might incorporate changes to its theme to fit a specific theme or atmosphere. While we intend to share patches across many different implementations, you should try and find a site that will suit your style of posting, and be aware that very different sites might sometimes struggle to correctly display posts from each other.

What user interface do I get?

Sites may ship any of a variety of frontends with various modifications, or none at all. You are also free to use alternative third-party frontends, so you aren't tied down to one specific UI when you sign up to a site. If a site is using a significantly modified frontend, you might not be able to access the full capabilities of the site from a third-party frontend, but basic posting should be supported.
